All you Americans out there know about the U.S. Patriot Act (as if not supporting it was being un-patriotic. fuckers.), passed in a knee-jerk reaction to the terrorist acts of September 11, right? If you don't, what the hell is your problem!?! (Be a good citizen, find out just what it is, for godsakes.) Anyway, something is finally happening to change this travesty, to help us get back some of the freedoms that have been denied to us. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont, and three other members of Congress had the nerve to be the first to call for changes in a law called the USA Patriot Act. They announced the introduction of H.R. 1157, the Freedom to Read Protection Act. Go people, contact your representative today, tell him or her to support this! Seriously, do you want your choice of reading material (from libraries or bookstores) to be available to FBI scrutiny? No, I'm not a terrorist, but if I happen to check out a book on poisons and one on the water supply of a metropolitan area, then the FBI might think that I am. Does this not suck? (And why am I not talking about us bombing Iraq? Because there is fuck all I can do about it. This, this is something we can change.) I believe that compromising our freedoms is NOT okay, even to give us a sense of security. I, personally, would rather be less "secure" in a free state than totally protected by Big Brother. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has a right to take away my right to read whatever I want. So, are you going to stand for this, or are you going to do something about it?
